Lessons in Love, Grace, and Faith: 6 Years of Motherhood Reflections
Today my little girl turns six. Six whole years of giggles, bedtime snuggles, and sticky hands reaching for mine. Six years of learning, stretching, failing, apologizing, forgiving, and getting back up again. Six years of motherhood that have changed me more than I ever thought possible.
When I look at her birthday candles glowing on the cake, I see more than a milestone. I see the lessons she has been quietly teaching me along the way—lessons that I think every mama can carry in her own heart, no matter what season you’re in.
Here are six of those lessons:
1. Patience Grows Slowly
Before motherhood, I thought patience was something you either had or you didn’t. But these past six years have taught me that patience is something we grow into. It’s in the deep breaths, the bedtime routines that take forever, and the mornings when shoes never seem to find their match. And that’s okay—it’s part of the journey.
2. Little Moments Are the Big Moments
The giggles before bed, the way she slips her hand into mine, the sound of her voice calling “Mama.” These tiny, ordinary moments? They’re the treasures I’ll carry forever. The big milestones matter, but it’s the everyday moments that shape my heart.
3. Grace Is for Both of Us
I’ve learned that motherhood is just as much about giving myself grace as it is about giving it to my child. She’s learning how to be a little person, and I’m learning how to be her mom. We’re both in training—and that’s the beauty of it.
4. Time Really Does Fly
Everyone tells you, “Enjoy it—it goes so fast.” And it’s true. Six years feels like a blink. I’ve learned to pause, to slow down, and to savor the season I’m in. The laundry can wait—but these little years won’t.
5. Love Multiplies, It Doesn’t Divide
The day I became a mom, my heart didn’t just grow—it overflowed. Love doesn’t divide itself between family members; it multiplies. And the love I feel for her is deeper than words could ever capture.
6. God’s Faithfulness Shows Up in Motherhood
In the sleepless nights, in the laughter, in the tears—God has been here. His presence is woven into the ordinary moments of motherhood. He’s shaping me just as much as He’s shaping my daughter. And that truth is what steadies me when the days feel heavy.
So here I am—six years later—looking at this beautiful girl God entrusted to me and whispering: thank You. Thank You for the lessons, for the laughter, for the grace to keep learning as I go.
To my daughter: Happy 6th birthday MJ. You’ve changed me forever, and I’m endlessly thankful I get to be your mama.
To the moms reading this: Whatever age your little ones are—2 months, 2 years, or 12—you’re learning too. You’re growing right alongside them. And that is a gift worth celebrating.
